Soothies Pacifier

So this is a baby product that makes sense to me. It's a pacifier that's actually shaped like a nipple. I never understood where companies got the shape that they did for their other pacifiers. Maybe I just need to get out more in the world, but I've never seen an actual nipple shaped like those on a bottle or person.

So here comes the new Soothies Pacifier. I noticed them right away because they look different and that always catches my eye. They're priced just right and you can find them anywhere. The only downside that I could tell from using it with my newborn is that he had a hard time keeping it in his mouth. (Maybe that's why other pacifiers are shaped the way they are?) Either that or because the circular outer part was too heavy compared to the narrow inner part.

They're very durable pacifiers and another thing I really like? They are so easy to clean. Look inside other pacifiers where the rubber "nipple" part meets the plastic outer part. It's so hard to clean and often you might find hair or dust or random dirt stuck in there. Gross! I don't want that in my baby's mouth! That's a non-issue with the Soothies Pacifier.

In an unrelated note, I also like that I can see inside my baby's mouth when he's sucking on it, but I always want to put my finger in there. Come on, you know you do too!

Playtex Vent Aire Advanced Baby Bottle

My newborn is a very gassy baby. He grunts and groans and lifts up his tiny little baby legs and my heart just breaks for him. So when my sister-in-law gave me a new bottle to try for him; I jumped at it (besides I love free stuff).

So right away I try the Playtex Vent Aire Advanced Baby Bottle. According to the website, "Only Playtex® VentAire® Advanced reusable bottles have micro-channel vent technology that, unlike ordinary bottles, vents air at the back of the bottle versus through the nipple. This helps prevent air from mixing with the milk and provides a virtually bubble-free feeding."

Also:
- Clinically shown to reduce gas, colic, and spit-up better than competitors*
- Angled bottle supports semi-upright feeding position to help prevent ear infections
- Advanced venting system designed to help liquid flow consistently.

The Result? A still gassy newborn. I wish I could report that it magically fixed the problem, but it didn't at all. It unfortunately seems to be Just a Regular Bottle. On the plus side, it did fit exactly right with my breast pump and I like the way it looks. The top didn't leak, but the removable bottom would if it wasn't screwed on tight enough.

By the way, we did fix the gas problem. My husband takes my baby's little legs and brings the knees up to his chest up and down for a few minutes right before bed. Works WONDERS!
